Top tips for completing your 2024 compliance report
The countdown is on for the 2024 compliance reporting period.
Every year, businesses that provide designated services must submit a compliance report to AUSTRAC. Your compliance report shows how you met your anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) obligations for the previous calendar year.
These reports are crucial for protecting the community from financial related crimes. They helps us better understand businesses’ compliance needs and allow us to deliver targeted support and resources.
Prepare to submit an accurate compliance report on time
The 2024 compliance reporting period starts on 1 January 2025. You must submit your compliance report by 11:59pm on 31 March 2025.
To prepare make sure you:
- test your login details for AUSTRAC Online
- check your contact details in AUSTRAC Online are up to date.
You can find information about managing your account, including how to update details or reset your password. You can also preview the questions now to help you prepare. For more information, see our compliance reports page.
Remember, you have obligations under the AML/CTF Act to:
- submit an accurate compliance report by the due date
- keep your contact details up to date.
If you don’t submit your compliance report on time, you could face penalties.
Common questions from last year
To help you complete and lodge your 2024 compliance report, here are the top five questions we received last year.
How do I lodge my compliance report?
You need to complete your compliance report through your AUSTRAC Online account. You can access it through the My Business menu.
Please note, only people with administrator access can submit a compliance report.
To complete and submit your report:
- Log in to AUSTRAC Online
- Go to ‘My Business’
- Click the plus sign (+) next to ‘My Business’ to see more menu options
- Select ‘Compliance Reports’
- Select ‘Open Compliance Report’
- Complete the questions
- Review and submit
I’ve already submitted my compliance report but I need to change it. Can I do that?
If you need to make a change to a submitted compliance report, you need to email or call our Contact Centre. The Contact Centre can only assist people with administrator access on your business’ AUSTRAC Online account.
You can find contact information for the Contact Centre on our website. You can also find more information about managing your account, including how to appoint a new administrator.
You need to submit your request before the reporting period closes on 31 March 2025.
When we receive the request we will re-open your compliance report. After you make your changes you must re-submit before the due date.
Is my report for the financial year or the calendar year?
The compliance report is for the previous calendar year – 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.
I stopped providing designated services during 2024. Do I still need to report?
You must submit a compliance report if you provided designated services at any time during the year, even if for only one day.
If you did not provide designated services at all during 2024 you should select ‘No’ on the first question that asks if you provided a designated service. Then you need to fill out the declaration and submission page.
If you will not provide designated services in the future, you must submit a Reporting Entities Roll removal form (ATRC1004). You can find instructions here.
If you submit this form before 1 January 2024, you do not have to complete a 2024 compliance report. If you submit this form after 1 January 2024, you need to complete your compliance report.
My last administrator left the business and I cannot log into AUSTRAC Online to submit my compliance report. How do I fix this?
You can appoint a new administrator using the AUSTRAC Online user access form. You can find this form on the Manage your account page under the heading ‘Appointing a new administrator’.
